A Word About The Course
As you might imagine, putting together a route that involves over 190 miles and 30 towns and communities can be quite a challenge. We do our best to provide you with some of the best scenery that Massachusetts has to offer while also showcasing as many State Parks along the way. It's also an opportunity for you to meet many of the wonderful, community organizations who help us make the race a success.
We do our best to ensure that the distances of each leg of the NB RTB Relay are as accurate as possible. However, due to the variety of measurement techniques available to you (and to us), you may find that our published distances don't line up with what you've measured. Generally speaking, you should expect our distance accuracies to be within .2 miles for any single leg. This year, however, we've added the GPS coordinates for each leg so that you can leverage some of the latest technology in getting you from 'A' to 'B'. Take a peek at the first page of the complete set of course maps to see the Course GPS Lookup Table.
We hope you enjoy the route that we've designed for you this year. We also ask that you please respect the towns and communities that you travel through as it is only with their permission and cooperation that this event can be run.

The following are general descriptions of each leg and are intended to provide you with a preview of the race route. These will be completed over the coming months but we wanted to at least give you some idea of where you’ll be heading.
A complete set of course maps (including GPS coordinates and elevation profiles) along with turn by turn directions will be posted here on or before April 15, 2012.
Leg 1: Wachusett Ski Area to Wachusett State Reservation: 2.8 miles: hard [map]
A complete set of course maps (including GPS coordinates and elevation profiles) along with turn by turn directions will be posted here on or before April 15, 2012.
New Hampshire isn’t the only state with hills. So we start you off with a ‘blast from the RTB past’ with a leg that goes straight up the ski slope and tops off at the State Park Ranger station some 2 miles away.
We ask that only your first support van arrive at this TA due to its limited size and resources.
This is also a No Trash zone. Please do not unload any garbage at this site.
Leg 2: Wachusett State Park to Prince of Peace Parish: 3.22 miles: easy [map]
We ask that only your first support van arrive at this TA due to its limited size and resources.
This is also a No Trash zone. Please do not unload any garbage at this site.
Leg 2 showcases some of the best scenery from this part of the state. On a clear day, you might actually catch a glimpse of Boston but you'll be more focused to the task at hand. After a short but tough climb, you'll be greeted by a classic New England setting as you get ready to hand off your baton at TA2.
Leg 3: Prince of Peace Parish to Comet Pond State Boat Ramp: 5.98 miles: moderate [map]
This leg meanders through a quiet, forested road as you leave the Town of Princeton and head southwest towards Hubbardston. TA3 will be at the boat ramp parking area on your right.
Leg 4: Comet Pond State Boat Ramp to Rutland SP Long Pond Boat Ramp: 8.42 miles: moderate [map]
Leg 5: Rutland SP Long Pond Boat Ramp to St. Mary's Catholic Church: 7.61 miles: easy [map]
Leg 6: St. Mary's Catholic Church to Assumption College: 6.71 miles: hard [map]
TA 6 is the first VTA of the race. This will also be the site of our first "recycling center" so don't forget to offload your recyclables here.
Leg 7: Assumption College to Immanuel Lutheran Church: 3.79 miles: hard [map]
This is a No Trash zone. Please do not unload any garbage at this site.
Leg 8: Immanuel Lutheran Church to First Congregational Church: 7.53 miles: hard [map]
Leg 8 is hard due to its distance and elevation changes. You will pass through the Towns of Holden and West Boylston before coming up to the Wachusett Reservoir which will stay in your view for the remainder of the leg until you reach TA8 at the end of a long climb.
Leg 9: First Congregational Church to Marion Zeh School: 6.36 miles: hard [map]
Leg 9 is one of our favorite riding routes with lots of rolling hills and we hope will become one of your favorite running ones.
